Precision Made

In The U.S.A.

Since 1996, artists from all over North America have been using Dead Straight stretcher/strainers. We manufacture every scale and shape. Our innovative system assures fast assembly and strong, square stretcher/strainers: unique dovetail keys are used to quickly join precision manufactured components. Our stretcher/strainers are designed to save you time and frustration.

Why Dead Straight Stretchers?

Frame Example

We subscribe to the notion that supports and surfaces, while integral to the work of art, better serve the work by preserving its original stative existence through a passive relationship. In this way the construction, design, joinery, and wood of our stretcher/strainers are all important elements of the painting as a whole, and are meant to coexist as dependent original elements.

Historian

Conservation experts agree the original support is a unique part of a painting's provenance that should be preserved. Dead Straight stretcher/strainers provide the least invasive way to maintain a desired level of tension across a painting surface. All dynamic interactions occur prior to the execution of the work of art. Stress is minimized, protecting a painting from being stretched (through repeated mechanical keying) to a tension beyond its sustainable yield point. The integrity of the painting is preserved. As Newton pointed out, an object that is at rest will stay at rest unless an unbalanced force acts upon it.

May no unbalanced force act on your art!
